Circle Time
Ms. Erika loves coming together on the carpet with her kids. It's a time to practice routines, have discussions, or introduce new activities.
Play = Learn
Ms. Erika believes so strongly in the power of play. Throughout her career, Ms. Erika has been a proponent of play in all shapes and forms - from dramatic role play to structured play activities to unstructured play time.
Inquiry
Ms. Erika witnesses the power of inquiry daily in her Kindergarten classroom. When students can explore their own interests, great things happen. Ms. Erika guides her students and is always encouraging her students to ask questions. And to EXPLORE!
Mathematics
Erika keeps fluent with best practices in teaching mathematics. She focuses on teaching concepts and problem solving skills. Students use visible thinking strategies to improve counting, addition and subtraction skills.
Music, Dance, Art:
Oh My!
Ms. Erika fills her classroom with music, dance, and art. There is so much to be learned and so much development that happens through music, dance, and art. And the kids love it, which is what early childhood education is supposed to be about!
Language & Literacy
With 17 years of experience in pre-kindergarten and kindergarten classes, Ms. Erika has had great success teaching literacy to young children from all over the world. Most of Erika's students enter her classroom not speaking English. Through daily immersion, story time, read-alouds, journals, and phonics, most students develop their language and literacy skills very quickly.
