For the past 20+ years, we have been living the nomadic life. We have lived in Venezuela, Honduras, Macau, Burkina Faso, China, Cambodia, and for the past 3 years, Dakar, Senegal. Along the way, we have met amazing people from all walks of life. We have been blessed beyond belief and are thankful for all the wonderful experiences we have shared as a family. Below you can learn a bit more about each of us.
Mike McCann
Mike is a creative and reliable primary visual arts teacher with more than 20 years of international experience teaching a wide variety of diverse students.
Outside of the classroom, Mike has lots of interests and hobbies. Among them are photography, music, and sports. Mike has shot portraits, weddings, album cover art and has had many of his photos published online and in print. He also loves digital design, sketching, and watercolors.
Mike is also lover of music. He plays the guitar and drums and loves to write and record his own songs. Over the years, he has played in bands with co-workers and students. In Dakar, he organized and hosted a bi-monthly open mic where many members of the school community attended.
Mike is also a sports fanatic. He is a die-hard fan of Chicago sports teams and still plays soccer and basketball.
Erika Huayanca
Erika is a passionate and dedicated early years' teacher with 20 years of international teaching experience. She brings energy, organization, and love to her class each day.
Erika is originally from Peru but moved to Venezuela with her family when she was a teenager. She earned her degree in accounting and her first job was as the business manager at Escuela Anaco, a small international school in Venezuela. That's where she met Mike. After Erika and Mike married, Erika went back to school online to earn her Master degree in Early Childhood education.
Outside of school, Erika loves to dance, travel, cook, and garden. She loves Peruvian food and has a serious chocolate addiction.
She likes to watch romantic comedies and crime mystery documentaries.
Conor McCann
Our son Conor is a 3rd year student at the University of Hong Kong. He is studying ecology and loves gaming and sports/fitness.
